Cork technology firm Global Shares creating 80 jobs

A technology company based in Clonakilty in west Cork has said it plans to more than double its workforce within the next three years through the creation of 80 jobs. Global Shares currently employs 60 people in Clonakilty and also has offices in New York, California and London.It develops software for managing companies’ employee equity plans, which allow workers to part own the companies where they work. Its software is currently used by more than 150 companies worldwide.

Global Shares said it expects its revenues and export sales to double over the next three years, requiring more staff in areas such as project management, accountancy and software development. The company’s expansion is being supported by Enterprise Ireland.

Elsewhere, companies supported by a network of Local Enterprise Offices have created an additional 4,000 jobs over the past year. The jobs were created in every county, according to an audit of job creation figures from the country’s 31 Local Enterprise Offices.The offices were established to allow start-ups and small businesses to access a range of State supports from a single source.The figures published today show there was a net increase of 4,012 jobs last year in companies supported by local enterprise offices.

The increase brings the total direct employment in these companies to more than 31,000 people.
