The Irish labour market continues to defy expectations, with the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) revealing a record-high employment rate. In the third quarter of 2024,  75.3% of people aged 15-64 were employed,  RTE reports that this is “the highest rate recorded since the series began in 1998”.

The strong employment figures are accompanied by a decrease in the unemployment rate to 4.5%.

The survey has also revealed a significant milestone in Irish youth employment. In Q3 2024, over half of young people aged 15-24 were in employment, marking the highest level since Q4 2008.

Bronagh Cotter, CEO of Recruit.ie, commented on the record-breaking employment figures: “These latest figures are a testament to the resilience of the Irish economy. It’s wonderful to see such strong employment growth, particularly among young people. This positive trend is an extremely encouraging sign that the country is continuing to move in the right direction.”
