The latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) Unemployment report records the unemployment rate for April 2024 at 4.4% – showing a slight uptick from the revised rate of 4.1% in March 2024. Year on year there was an increase in the unemployment rate from 4.1% in April 2023 to 4.4% in April 2024.
In April 2024 the monthly unemployment rate for men was at 4.1% indicating a rise from the revised rate of 3.9% in March 2024. It is worth noting that this rate is lower than that of April 2023 suggesting some improvement in employment rates over the year.
In contrast there was an increase in the unemployment rate for women, which reached 4.7% in April 2020 as opposed to the revised rate of 3.9% in April 2023.
The latest data also records that the rate of unemployment among young people (aged 15-24 years), which jumped to 10.6% in April 2024. This marks a rise from the revised March 2024 rate of 9.2%.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for individuals aged 25-74 years showed a slight increase from 3.4% in March 2024 to 3.5% in April 2024.
