Tips for Employers on Being Disability Inclusive in Apprenticeships

Tips for Employers on Being Disability Inclusive in Apprenticeships

FIT have launched ‘Tips for Employers on Being Disability Inclusive in Apprenticeships’ in collaboration with AHEAD.

AHEAD is an independent non-profit organisation working to create inclusive environments in education and employment for people with disabilities

FIT is dedicated to addressing the skills requirements of Ireland’s increasingly digitalised economy.

In March 2021, FIT embarked on a ‘Shared learning experience’ with AHEAD to build on previous in-house activities exploring ways to increase access and inclusion to the workplace by enabling people with disabilities to gain a foothold in employment via a tech apprentice pathway.

One of these activities is a ‘Tips for Employers’ Sheet which highlights a variety of practices an employer can implement when supporting an individual with a disability and their apprenticeship journey.

The aim of this initiative is two-fold, to increase access & inclusion for apprentices with a disability by increasing employer knowledge & awareness around all aspects of best practice. While all increasing the number of individuals with a disability that can access and apply for apprenticeships in Ireland, specifically the tech apprenticeships with FIT.

This tips booklet is for all employers who wish to develop a deeper understanding of supporting employees and prospective employees with disabilities.
