Unemployment Rate Rises in July 2024

In July 2024, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 4.7%, up from 4.5% in June 2024 and from 4.3% in July 2023, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO)  This increase reflects shifts in the job market affecting various demographics.

Breakdown by Gender
  • Males: The unemployment rate for men increased to 4.7% in July 2024, up from 4.5% in both June 2024 and July 2023.
  • Females: Women’s unemployment rate rose more sharply to 4.8% in July 2024, from 4.5% in June 2024 and 4.1% in July 2023.
Age Group Insights
  • Youth Unemployment (15-24 years): This group saw a significant rise in unemployment, reaching 11.4% in July 2024, up from 10.4% in June 2024.
  • Adults (25-74 years): The unemployment rate for this age bracket increased slightly to 3.7% in July 2024, from 3.6% in June 2024.
