Job Objectives

As a Basic Grade Clinical/Counselling Psychologist you will be joining a dynamic and expanding psychology department in a clinically rich environment. You will be a member of highly motivated multi-disciplinary team working with children and adults with complex needs, with or without intellectual disabilities, and varied mental health difficulties.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of psychological services in Nua’s Mental Health Service and across the business [needs specific], this would include assessment, diagnosis, devising, monitoring and reviewing treatment programmes. Other duties would include, but not limited to;

1. Provide a range of psychological assessments and interventions as required.

2. Facilitate therapy/counselling sessions and behaviour management plans.

3. The post holder would be expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver a high-quality, outcome and recovery focussed service that meets the needs of all service users.

4. Promote and deliver services in accordance with the ethos of the company.

5. Provide support/advice to Service Users.

6. Provide support/advice for both staff and families of our Service Users.

7. They will be provided with clinical supervision on a weekly basis and upskilling in clinical competences, such as neuropsychological, personality and dual diagnostic assessments.

Continuous professional development is supported through allocation of time to attend relevant training and budget allocation.

Skills Required

Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

(i) Possess a recognised professional post-graduate qualification in clinical or counselling psychology;

(ii) Clinical graduates in the process of completing their post-graduate qualification in clinical or counselling psychologist are welcome to apply;

(iii) If qualified outside the Republic of Ireland, their qualification is validated by the Department of Health or may be working towards meeting compensatory criteria set up by the Department. Validation certificate needs to be included with this application.

(iv) All candidates must meet the registration requirements of the Psychological Society of Ireland. Skills and Qualities:

i. Ability to build and maintain good relationships with a wide range of people and enjoy working with people of all ages.

ii. Capacity to listen carefully combined with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

iii. Patience, tact and empathy to people’s needs.

iv. Practical, creative, Problem-solver with a ‘can-do’ attitude.

v. Ingenuity, enthusiasm, common sense, and a sound knowledge base.

vi. Ability to see the many different factors that can affect someone’s outlook.

vii. Ability to combine a range of different activities.

viii. Ability to make your own decisions as well as work in co-operation with others.

ix. Responsible, professional approach, respecting client confidentiality.

x. Full Clean Driver’s Licence
