The Role:
The role of the Team Leader post is pivotal in supporting the
coordination and management of residential services which may include wrap
around day services in this new service in Loughrea, Co. Galway. The main responsibilities are to support
resource-management and staffing - including rosters, staff development,
facilitating communication and professional leadership in order to ensure a
good quality of life for the people living in both houses.

Area Manager/Service Coordinator
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a relevant third level qualification relevant
to the Health or Social Care sectors i.e. RNID/RMHN Nursing qualification and
NMBI Registration or a BA (Level 7) in Applied Social Studies/Social Care, or
other relevant qualification i.e. Social Work or BA in Family/Community
Studies.
Experience:
A minimum of 3 year’s experience in a similar role in the
Health/Social Care Sectors would be a distinct advantage.
Experience of working in a person-centred service with people with
intellectual disabilities is essential.
Experience in community networking and involving individuals in
their local community is essential and an experience of mental health
management is a distinct advantage.
As this is a new service, experience with the setting up of similar
services would also be advantageous.
Skills:
Candidates should be able to demonstrate leadership, communication
and team working skills.
The successful candidate will be a flexible and dynamic individual
who will relate to people in a range of situations together with an
understanding of and commitment to the principles of public accountability as
they apply in the health service.
Candidates must have a full clean manual Irish driving licence.
Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of
this post.
Working Hours:
39 hours per week based on a 7 day duty roster. Contracted hours of work are liable to change
over seven days to meet the requirements of the service. A sleep-in commitment is an essential
requirement of this post for which the appropriate allowance will be paid.
An on-call commitment is an essential requirement of the post. The Brothers of Charity model of service is
based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their
working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.
Annual Leave:
Leave will be granted according to the agreed leave assigned to the
grade of the successful
Candidate i.e. CNM1 or Social Care Leader.
Remuneration:
Based on the salary scale attached to the grade of the successful
candidate i.e. CNM1 or
Social Care Leader.
Tenure:
This position is permanent, full-time and pensionable.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal
Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible within working hours to
provide a quality service delivery for each individual.
Specific Conditions:
- Staff must have a positive
attitude towards working with persons with an intellectual disability and
help to ensure that they lead as normal and enjoyable a life as possible.
- Staff must treat each person
with an intellectual disability as an individual and at all times
acknowledge and respect the rights and personal dignity of the person with
an intellectual disability.
- Staff are required to
establish and maintain relationships with adults with disabilities that
are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence.
Main duties and functions:
- Assist in formulating,
implementing and evaluating service plans in co-operation with the Service
Coordinator/ Area Manager, multidisciplinary supports and other team
members under the direction of the Area Manager.
- Be an active member of your
assigned team (s).
- Provide a high level of
leadership to all staff/ team members within the service and appraise
staff performance and provide support and supervision to staff members.
- Deputise for the Service
Coordinator/Area Manager as the need arises, including the provision of
on-call cover for other community services on an agreed rostered basis.
- Act as a support to
individual staff and provide a working environment where all staff feel
affirmed and valued so that they will see themselves as having ownership
for all the activities in their part of the service.
- Support and facilitate the
key workers in his/her team to meet the identified needs arising from the
individual Person Centred Plan. Ensure the team, and the work that it
does, is focused on the individual needs of the people supported by
services.
- Ensure that the Personal
Outcomes Process is fully operational in the team.
- Evaluate and manage the
implementation of best practice and ensure that all staff are familiar
with and adhere to the policies and procedures of the Brothers of Charity
Services.
- Prepare and be responsible
for staff rosters and the provision of locum cover where necessary in your
designated area.
- To ensure that staff meetings
are held regularly and that minutes of these are circulated to the
appropriate personnel.
- Ensure that all individual
planning records, local reviews, Team based performance records are
inputted and updated on the Database.
- Provide support, manage and
resolve problems within the team when appropriate.
- Facilitate team building and
staff motivation.
- To ensure that all accidents
and complaints are immediately reported to the Area Manager and provide
follow up information in line with service policy. Ensure records relating to all
accidents, incidents and complaints are maintained in line with
organisational policy and procedures.
- To ensure safekeeping of
personal possessions of the people supported by the services and ensure
accountability for all individual’s monies in line with the organisations
policy on managing people supported by the services finances.
- To maintain written records
in line with best practice, current legislation and HIQA regulations. To
ensure all relevant information on individual people supported by the
services is communicated to all staff and other disciplines as required.
- Ensure the appropriate
proactive strategies are documented and implemented on individual people
supported by the services.
- To ensure a good standard of
hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the Services.
- In collaboration with the
Service Coordinator/ Area Manager to ensure that all repairs to buildings
and equipment are carried out promptly.
- To ensure that high
professional standards and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
- Ensure the services are
operating in line with the Health Information and Quality Authority
Regulations and Standards (HIQA) for residential Services.
- Be aware of current
employment legislation and follow the Human Resource procedures and
policies of the organisation.
- Manage and supervise the
performance of staff including responsibility for timekeeping, attendance,
planning annual leave and appraising staff performance.
- Participate in managing all
resources efficiently and effectively within agreed budget.
- Facilitate co-ordination,
co-operation, liaison and communication across multidisciplinary teams and
programmes.
- Provide induction for all new
staff assigned to the programme as required.
- Be aware of the training and
development needs of staff and ensure these needs are met and that all
mandatory training is undertaken as required.
- Take responsibility for the
ordering, storage, stock and administration of medication for the two
centres as required in accordance with Service Drugs Policy.
- Ensure that the Services
Medication Policy is followed and good practice is upheld in the
administration of medication.
- Participate in the
identification development and delivery of education, training and
development within your programme as appropriate.
- Be proactive and take an
active part in future service planning, development and delivery.
- Evaluate and manage the
implementation of best practice policy and procedures including the
policies and procedures of the Brothers of Charity Services and operate
within the policies and procedures of the Services in all aspects of your
work.
- Facilitate and lead team
based performance management within the centres.
- Promote and facilitate
community liaison including advocacy, citizen advocacy and promoting and
maintaining family contact for people supported by the services.
- Ensure the Pastoral Care
needs of the people supported by the services are being met.
- Operate within the policies
and procedures of the Service in all aspects of your work.
- Promote dignity at work and
show respect to people supported by the services, colleagues and
stakeholders in the course of duty.
- Be aware of and become
familiar with fire drill procedures within the services i.e. fire
detection, evacuation and fire fighting.
- Ensure that effective safety
procedures are developed and managed to comply with the statutory
obligations in conjunction with relevant staff.
- Be conscious of Health and
Safety matters in the workplace and in particular ensure that all team
members comply with Employee’s obligations as set out under Section 9 of
the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
- Avail of all training and
development opportunities to achieve the above objectives.
- As the duties and
responsibilities of any post in the Service are likely to change with the
ongoing needs of the individuals, i.e. age, level of disability, Personal
Outcome Measures, etc., staff are expected to have a high level of
flexibility, and a willingness and an ability to develop new approaches to
their work as the individuals needs demand.
- Perform such other duties
appropriate to the post as may be assigned to him/her by the Service
Coordinator/ Area Manager. All
duties must be carried out in person at all times.
