Job Descriptions

Principal Duties and Responsibilities






Clinical



  • Support the audiologist in
    patient preparation for both adults and children for diagnostic
    assessments and rehabilitative management.

  • Work within the
    Scope of Practice (SOP) for the role and qualifications.

  • Carry out impression taking, ear mould
    fitting, administration
    and modification.

  • Operate automated hearing screening systems.

  • Undertake routine hearing aid
    repair, maintenance and replacement clinics

  • Carry out
    replacement and fitting of tubing/open fitting components

  • Refer more complex patient issues to Staff
    Grade Audiologist in line with audiology service protocols

  • Record clinical outcomes.


·       Carry out briefing of
individuals/groups or parents to include:


o  
Basic
use and controls of the hearing aids


o  
Troubleshooting


o  
Basic
hearing tactics and communication skills


o   Telephone
reviews/questionnaires


o  
Supporting
behavioural assessments


o  
Air
conduction audiometry for screening hearing



  • Support
    Individual Management Plans to include:







    • Development
      of/contribution to a plan within the scope of the role in consultation
      with patients and relevant others, based on individual patient
      needs.

    • Participation
      in regular updates and meetings with staff

    • Monitoring,
      review and adaption of plans as necessary



 


Professional
Standards, Education & Training



  • Maintain
    professional standards in line with changing practice.

  • Contribute
    to development of patient focused services as part of the Integrated
    Services Area (ISA).

  • Actively
    engage in and promote continuous professional education and development,
    including supervision of trainees.

  • Participate in planning reviews,
    professional supervision, and performance management and development
    process as required.

  • Develop
    and implement policies and procedures to support safety, best practice
    and service provision.

  • Contribute
    to risk management within the audiology service and provide for the
    requirements of safety standards.

  • Supervision of audiology trainees
    on placement when directed by senior staff.


 


Audit &
Research



  • Along with all other staff, will
    be expected to participate in clinical audit and research projects,
    recording and reporting on data as required locally or nationally.

  • Assist in developing local tools
    for audit and measuring patient satisfaction.

  • Contribute to clinical adult and
    research and development to evaluate effectiveness of care delivery
    incorporating the lessons learned through the audit cycle.





Administrative



  • Carry out
    administrative duties relating to patient reception, correspondence,
    processing of reports, scheduling of appointments, posting and receipt
    of hearing aids, telephone queries and liaising with patients and
    caregivers, triaging queries
    from professionals and general administrative support in domiciliary service.

  • Maintain patients’ records and
    data accurately on the patient management systems (electronically or
    manually if systems are unavailable) according to the audiology service
    protocols including; accurate and timely
    collection of data, database inputting, transfer of current
    paper records on to the patient management system. Update of the
    national neonatal screening database (eSP) searches and reports,
    targeted follow up (TFU) appointment monitoring.

  • Carry out
    calibration and maintenance of equipment, including hygiene and infection
    control.

  • Prepare and restock
    treatment rooms and comply with stock control and stock management
    requirements.

  • Use the
    electronic patient management system to keep track of current stock
    levels and items of stock provided to patients.





Health, Safety & Governance



  • Follow departmental and national
    protocols and practices.

  • Observe
    the Health & Safety at Work Act 2005.

  • Manage
    resources effectively and provide statistics in line with requirements.

  • Represent
    the audiology service and its users in accordance with the management
    systems within the relevant HSE Area and participate in processes
    including:




    • Clinical Directorates Management System

    • Service Planning Process

    • Performance Management

    • Risk Management

    • Quality Improvement






  • Adhere to all HSE policies and
    procedures, seeking clarification from more senior staff as required.

  • Have a working
    knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA)
    Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for
    Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of
    Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc. and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and
    maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role.

  • To support, promote
    and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste
    initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient
    health service.


 


Resource Management



  • Plan and run screening, mould and
    repair clinics/sessions including adjustments to appointment times,
    running of open sessions etc. in an efficient and effective manner.

  • Engage proactively in the
    continual improvement process.

  • Prioritise work and manage time
    effectively.
