Canberra Hospital currently boasts 13 Operating Theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialities, including general, cardiothoracic, emergency and trauma, ears, nose and throat, obstetrics and gynaecology, neurosurgery, orthopaedic, paediatrics, plastic and reconstructive, urology and vascular surgeries.
Health Services is undergoing massive growth, with the new Critical Services Building providing 22 brand new operating theatres, the latest in medical technology and facilities, and is due for completion in 2024.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Health Services is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary, and community‐based health services, to the Australia and surrounding region.
The Division of Surgery is responsible for delivering inpatient and outpatients surgical services The Division includes Surgical Bookings and Pre-Admission Clinic, Anaesthesia, Pain Management Unit, Operating Theatres, Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, Day Surgery Unit and Admissions / Extended Day Surgery Unit, specialist surgical ward areas, medical and nursing Outpatient services, Shock Trauma Service, Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Unit and Intensive Care Unit.
As an Anaesthetic Nurse you will be a part of the multidisciplinary team and have a key role in caring for patients at engaging in surgical services.
DUTIES
Under limited direction of your Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Be responsible for the provision of comprehensive, high-quality care to patients utilising the principles of fair access and equity, patient participation, health promotion and prevention.
2. Provides patient care in accordance with relevant legislation, professional standards, and organisational policy within the professional scope of practice of a Registered Nurse.
3. Maintain required clinical core competencies and skills, access appropriate education and staff development opportunities.
4. Participate in risk assessment, incident and accident reporting and staff development activities such education, policy review and Quality activities, the preceptorship of other staff members and an annual performance review, that aim at improving the level of service to patients and the department.
5. Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues utilising well developed verbal, written and technological skills.
6. Maintain and promote safe clinical practice and adhere to Infection Control principles and practices.
7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:
• Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
The successful applicant will need to be available for weekend and after-hours work.
• Have a minimum of 6 months of relevant clinical experience in a theatres or surgical environment or have had an Operating Theatres student placement including anaesthetics rotation.
• NSW and ACT are leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the • Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
• Have an understanding of how the NSQHS indicators align with this role.
• Fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the Rubies Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:
• Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
• Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening, and vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.
