OBJECTIVE
Ensure delivery of store targets (both in terms of sales & profitability) through the effective management of store and forecourt, about marketing, operations, and personnel.
MANAGEMENT
- The recruitment, training, and development of high-quality personnel for store operations.
- Rostering and general management of personnel to ensure adequate cover within budgetary provisions.
- Plan and organize operations ensuring consistent service provided to the customer.
- Managing the overall performance of the store.
- Ensure the team is motivated.
- Manage the performance of the team utilising effective performance management techniques in line with labour law.
- Continually communicate with the Assistant Store Manager and Retail Sales Team regarding objectives and store performance.
- Setting goals for the store to ensure effective customer service and competitiveness.
FINANCE
- Generating financial reports, analysing the same, and reporting any discrepancies to the store owner.
- Setting budgets for the store.
- Ensure overheads are controlled and minimised where appropriate.
- Ensure store sales are maximised.
- Know who your direct competition in and how you compare with price on fuel and comparables.
- Ensure store margins are managed appropriately and the profitability of the store is maximised.
OPERATIONS
- Ensure operation runs efficiently and smoothly.
- Ensure store standards are consistently improved in terms of housekeeping, merchandising, presentation, and service.
- Ensure all standards in terms of health and safety and legislation in general are adhered to in respect of fuel, including deliveries and procedures.
- Plan for market changes and demands as they arise.
- Ensure in-store promotions are managed appropriately.
- Ensure policies and procedures are implemented and managed within the store.
- Manage cash handling in line with company cash handling procedures and take action on any discrepancies that arise.
- Manage store merchandising ensuring appropriate "value" image is portrayed in line with company procedures.
- Accountable for ensuring consistently high levels of customer service.
- To ensure all customer complaints are dealt with appropriately.
- To take necessary action in store improvements following customer complaints.
STOCK MANAGEMENT
- Ensure effective stock control systems are in place.
- Preparation for and management of stock take.
- Ensure effective stock control procedures are in place to minimise stock loss.
- Ensure effective food management and waste systems are implemented, managed, and updated appropriately.
- Identify areas of stock leakage and ensure effective systems are in place to minimise stock loss (e.g. through pilferage, wastage, and damages).
- Ensure effective stock rotation and stock monitoring systems are in place and adhered to.

LEGISLATION & SECURITY
- Take full care of the Health & Safety of all personnel and customers in-store and ensure any risks are minimised, or where possible, eliminated (particular care in respect of fuel).
- Ensure security of store and personnel is maintained at all times.
- Take relevant action on security issues as and when they arise.
- Ensure secure opening and closing procedures.
- Ensure the store operates within relevant legislation in terms of labour law, health, and safety law, HACCP, and sale of goods.
- Ensure you are up to date on all aspects of Health & Safety legislation, HACCP, Labour Law, and Consumer Legislation and take relevant actions that may arise out of changes in same.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
- The ideal candidate will possess many of the below attributes.
- Proven ability in managing retail sales team including the following:

- Excellent operational knowledge of the retail environment.
- Excellent interpersonal relations.
- Excellent understanding of consumer needs.
- Proven track record in achieving agreed targets.
- Financial skills with previous experience in budgets and profit and loss accounts.
- Working knowledge of Labour Law, Health & Safety regulations, HACCP, and Consumer Law.
- An excellent commercial acumen with the ability to anticipate and react to market changes.
- Committed to continually improving standards.
- Self-motivated.
- The ability to work in a pressurised environment.
- Computer skills.
