POSITION OVERVIEW
Health Services is focussed on the delivery of high
quality, effective, person-centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary,
and community‐based health services, to Australia cities and surrounding
region.
The Division of Cancer, Ambulatory Support (CAS)
provides a comprehensive range of cancer screening, assessment, diagnostic and
treatment services and palliative care through inpatient, outpatient, and
community settings. This Division is also responsible for the support functions
for ambulatory and community health including the Central Health Intake team,
Central Outpatients, and the Walk -in Centres
The
Walk- in Centres are a nurse-led primary health service that provides episodic
care for minor injury and illness to the community. The Walk-in Centres are
staff ed by Advanced Practice Nurses and Nurse Practitioners.
Advanced
Practice Nurses work within the scope provided by Clinical treatment Protocols
and Medication Standing Orders. Nurse Practitioners provide autonomous care to
our patients, using advanced clinical assessment skills, experience, and
expertise to assess, diagnose and treat patients who present to the WiCs. Nurse
Practitioners have a scope of practice which extends beyond the WiC CTP and
MSOs enabling them to treat a broader range of conditions. Nurse Practitioners
are expected to undertake relevant education and training to demonstrate
competence in any expanded scope of practice.
Note: Credentialing through the Nursing and Midwifery
Clinical Scope of Practice and Credentialing Committee is mandatory prior to
employment and the successful candidate/s will be eligible for appointment to a
permanent RN 4.2 Nurse Practitioner position/s on evidence of completion of the
WiC competency program. Competency is to be met within four weeks and assessed
via Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCE).
The
successful applicant will work collaboratively and report directly to the
Assistant Director of Nursing.
DUTIES
Under limited direction from executive the Assistant
Director of Nursing and Clinical Nurse Managers will:
- Provide a comprehensive Nurse Practitioner service, effectively
managing the safe clinical care of patients presenting with
non-differentiated acute minor illness and/ or injury.
- Develop and maintain
agreed Walk-in Centre Nurse Practitioner credentialing, including the
medication formulary to support the highest level of clinical nursing
practice and leadership as an autonomous health professional.
- Provide advanced
comprehensive and holistic nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning and
implementation of treatment, utilising a patient-focussed model of care,
which is evidence-based alongside relevant opportunistic health promotion,
education, and support to patients to enable their active participation in
their care.
- Communicate effectively,
including liaison and collaboration with other health care professionals
and agencies to accept or redirect patients adhering to Walk in Centre
Clinical Treatment Protocols.
- Participate and provide
leadership in the clinical governance and clinical risk management in the
Walk in Centre. Including participation in and provision of
education, mentoring and clinical leadership to the other staff of the
Walk-in Centre.
- Undertake other duties
appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the
operation of the organisation.

Position
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Be registered or be
eligible for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the Australian
Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Extensive clinical
experience in primary health care or within a relevant acute and/or
primary care area.
Successful candidates will be required to:
- Undertake primary health care clinical training and
education and the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE)
assessments prior to working autonomously in the WiC. The OSCE assessment
must be passed during the probation period for permanent appointment.
- Obtain a Compliance
Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment,
screening & vaccination processes against specified infectious
diseases.
- Undergo a pre-employment
National Police Check.
- Nurse Practitioner must be
credentialed prior to commencement at Health Services.
- ACT and NSW are leading the drive to digitally transform
health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a
territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are
required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for
completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the
Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once
proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and
contingencies.
- Have an understanding of how the
National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with
this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this
role in alignment to the Rubies Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical
Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other
related frameworks.

- Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skills, experience and
extended practice in the clinical assessment, diagnosis, investigation,
treatment, and referral of patients with minor illness and injury.
- Demonstrated high level
communication, liaison, interpersonal and negotiation skills, and the
ability to form relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to
ongoing professional development of self and others and the creation and
maintenance of a teaching and research-orientated work environment.
- Knowledge and
understanding of current trends in primary healthcare practice and an

clinical practice change.
